When I embarked on this challenge, I knew little about drawing with colored pencils. Painting in layers and understanding the requirements for paper were all foreign concepts to me. I recall initially attempting to draw a simple flower, only to be frustrated with the results. But instead of giving up, I persevered. I knew there was something magical about colored pencils waiting to be unlocked.

It was then that I realized the importance of proper tools. Investing in quality colored pencils, like the Polychromos Colouring Pencils from Faber-Castell, was a game-changer. The vibrant pigments, smooth application, and blendability of these pencils opened up a new world of possibilities for me.

One of the most significant revelations of this month was discovering the difference between wax-based and oil-based colored pencils. Each type has unique characteristics and applications, and understanding their nuances has been invaluable in my artistic exploration.

Below, I want to share some tips and insights I've gathered along the way:

Layering: Experiment with layering different colors to create depth and dimension in your artwork. Building up layers gradually allows you to achieve richer hues and smoother transitions.

Blending: Utilize blending techniques like burnishing or solvent to seamlessly merge colors and achieve a more polished look. Blending can soften harsh lines and create a cohesive finish to your piece.

Paper selection: Choose the right paper for your colored pencil work. Textured paper provides teeth for the pigment to grip onto, while smooth paper allows for more precise detailing. Consider the effect you want to achieve and select your paper accordingly.

Practice patience: Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a masterpiece. Take time with each piece, allowing yourself to experiment, make mistakes, and learn. Embrace the process, and don't be discouraged by setbacks.

As I continue on this artistic journey, I'm excited to delve deeper into the world of colored pencils. There's still much to learn and explore, but I'm grateful for my progress. Stay tuned for more insights and discoveries shaping the rest of this journey.
